When do you need a fire-rated (FRC) fire extinguisher cabinet?

A recessed or semi-recessed cabinet sits in an opening cut into the wall. When that wall is fire rated, specify the fire-rated (FRC) version, which adds a fire-rated insulated outer box around the cabinet. The architect's drawings or the local fire marshal (the authority having jurisdiction) tell you which walls are rated. FRC cabinets need a larger rough opening, so check the submittal before framing. Surface cabinets mount on the face of the wall and are not offered fire rated.

Which door style should you choose?

• Full glass (A): tempered safety glass across the full door.
• Break glass (B): a locked door; the Break Rite handle breaks the tempered glass for access.
• Duo panel (D) and duo vertical (DV): the door is split into two tempered glass panels, side by side (DV) or stacked (D).
• Break glass 25 sq in (E): a small tempered break panel with a Break Rite handle.
• Flush solid metal (F): no glass; add lettering so the cabinet can be found.

Recessed cabinets, corridors and the ADA

Surface cabinets stand out from the wall. In corridors and other circulation paths, the 2010 ADA Standards limit how far wall-mounted objects can protrude (see Section 307, Protruding Objects). Recessed, semi-recessed and trimless cabinets keep the face close to the wall. Confirm the projection of the model you choose on its submittal, and check local code, which can be stricter.

Yes. Our own W2 crews furnish and install fire extinguisher cabinets in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. How is shipping calculated?

Shipping is calculated at checkout from your ship-to address and the cabinets in your cart. Fire-rated cabinets ship heavier because of the insulated outer box.
