What is commercial wall protection?
Commercial wall protection is the impact resistant trim, rails and panels that keep carts, beds, pallet jacks and foot traffic from damaging walls, corners and doors. Architects specify it in CSI MasterFormat Section 10 26 00, Wall and Door Protection, with the rest of Division 10. Drywall and paint do not hold up to daily cart traffic, and the patch and paint cycle costs more over the life of a building than the protection would have.
| Product | What it does | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Corner guards | Covers outside corners, where most impact damage happens | Corridor intersections, elevator lobbies, door approaches |
| Crash rails and bumper guards | Horizontal rails that take cart and bed impacts along a wall | Hospital and school corridors, loading and service areas |
| Handrails | Support for walking plus wall protection in one rail | Healthcare and senior living corridors |
| Rigid sheet and wall panels | Full surface protection where impact is broad | Patient rooms, corridors, kitchens, behind equipment |
| Door and frame protection | Kick plates, door edge guards and frame protectors | High use doors in any building |
Wall corner guards
Corner guards for walls come in vinyl or PETG, stainless steel, aluminum and clear polycarbonate, surface mounted or flush mounted, in heights up to full wall height. Vinyl and PETG corner guards match wall colors and cost the least per foot. Stainless steel corner guards suit food service, wash down areas and back of house. Clear corner guards protect a painted or papered corner without changing how it looks. Flush mount corner guards need the wall framed for them, so the choice has to be made before drywall.

Crash rails, bumper guards and handrails
Crash rails run along corridor walls at cart and bed height and spread an impact along a retainer instead of the wall. Bumper guards are the lower profile version for lighter traffic. Handrails give patients and residents a place to hold and protect the wall at the same time, which is why healthcare corridors often get a combination handrail with a bumper below it. Set the rail height from the carts and beds the building will use, not from a typical detail.

Rigid sheet and protective wall panels
Rigid sheet and protective wall panels cover the whole lower wall, or the full wall height, where damage is broad rather than at one corner. They go behind beds and stretchers, in corridors that see carts all day, in kitchens and in clean areas that need a wipeable surface. Panels install with adhesive or with a mechanical mounting system, and they are trimmed at seams, edges and outlets. Sheet needs room for expansion at joints, or it buckles.

Door and frame protection
Doors and frames take the most hits in any building. Kick plates, push plates, door edge guards and frame protectors come in the same materials as the rest of the wall protection, or in stainless steel, so a whole corridor can match.

Wall protection installers and installation
Wall protection goes in after paint and before final clean, and it is unforgiving of poor coordination. Corner guards fastened to unblocked drywall pull loose. Crash rails set at the wrong height miss the carts they were meant to stop. Rigid sheet set without expansion room buckles. Our crews check blocking against the wall protection schedule before drywall closes, lay out rail heights with a laser so they run true down a corridor, use the manufacturer's fasteners and adhesives, and trim panels around outlets, headwall equipment and door frames.

In Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina, the same W2, background checked crews that install our toilet partitions, restroom accessories and visual display boards install wall protection, so your Division 10 package is one contract and one point of contact. We are licensed and insured, provide a COI on request, handle certified payroll for prevailing wage work, and warrant our installation workmanship for one year. Outside those states we ship nationwide and send installation details for your installer. See installation services.
