Special-Lite toilet partitions: SpecLite 3 FRP

Special-Lite is a family owned door maker in Decatur, Michigan, founded in 1971, and says it is the largest volume producer of commercial FRP doors in the United States (about Special-Lite). Its partitions use the same construction as its SL-17 school door. Special-Lite says the system weighs 20 percent less than steel and 50 percent less than HDPE, the corners are mitered with no welds, and the headrail has a peaked top to discourage people from hanging on it.

Mounting. The Special-Lite data sheet shows floor shoes and a peaked top aluminum headrail as standard stall parts, so plan these as headrail braced partitions. We did not find ceiling hung or floor to ceiling options in Special-Lite's documents.

Privacy and access. Special-Lite's No Sight Line design comes standard, with a continuous door stop, a continuous hinge and full length brackets. An optional SL-64 ADA self closing gravity continuous gear hinge adds a slide latch for emergency access.

Component Standard size Maximum size
Stall panel 59 x 58 inch 84 x 58 inch

Pilaster 3 to 24 inch wide x 80 inch
Panel and pilaster thickness 1 1/4 inch; shoes 4 inch tall
Floor clearance Panel bottom set 12 inch off the floor (installation instructions)

Where Special-Lite FRP partitions fit

Special-Lite lists K-12 schools, colleges, athletic facilities, arenas, parks and recreation areas, retail stores and restaurants. Because the panels resist corrosion and moisture, it also points to restrooms near locker rooms, pools, showers, spas, campgrounds and coastal sites. Special-Lite says the product was first designed for correctional facilities. Layouts include between walls, in corner, alcove, side alcove, free standing and shower stalls, plus urinal screens and privacy screens.

SL-175 hybrid FRP stall doors

For walled compartments that only need a door, Special-Lite makes the SL-175, a 1 3/4 inch institutional shower and toilet stall door up to 36 inches wide and 60 inches tall. It has .120 inch pebble grain FRP faces over an aluminum chassis with a closed cell polyurethane foam core, and mounts between walls with the SL-1034 insert frame and SL-11 concealed continuous gear hinge. Replacing a Special-Lite door latch, hinge or bracket? Email a photo of the hardware and the stall to cs@restroomstallsandall.com and we will match the Special-Lite partition hardware. See bathroom stall doors and replacement hardware.

How much do Special-Lite partitions cost?

Price depends on the layout, door and panel sizes, finish, hinge choice and the number of stalls, so we quote each Special-Lite job from the plans. If your spec does not require Special-Lite, you can price standard overhead braced partitions by material in our Instant Quote; see toilet partition prices in 2026 for what drives cost.
